Ted is wonderful to watch as an Artist and fabulous as a teacher of the Blacksmithing art. I have seen him at numerous events over the years. Youth and adult education teachers from Montessori, *****, and other programs have reached out to Ted over the years to work with individual as well as classes of students. Ted has had 4 apprentices and taught over 300 students since 1998. His innovative methods have helped students learn more easily and faster, including students with special needs. It is a priority for Ted to be inclusive of all ages, diverse gender identities, races, cultures, learning styles, and emotional differences, and to make skills accessible so students can we can all bring traditional skills to our communities. My son has been seeing Ted for metal smithing lessons for several years now. As my son is on the autism spectrum, few people have been able to reach him, but Ted is one of those chosen few.
We started with the lessons as a form of occupational therapy for my son, but it soon became clear that there was something different with the metal smithing, beyond our expectations. Ted has always been open about his own autism with our son & has been an excellent mentor on how to function as someone who is different from the rest. Under Ted's tutelage, our son has flourished in a way that no people on his official therapy team at the high school have been able to achieve.
